Words for preachers

And he himself gave some to be ... pastors and teachers, equipping the saints for the work of ministry.
— Ephesians 4:11-12 CSB

I was gleaning highlights from the biography of Robert Murray McCheyne this past week; words that were particularly applicable to us who preach. Initially, I was writing them out in my journal, but there were so many I just jotted down the initials "PQ" (preacher quote) and then the page number where I found the next timely word from the Scottish preacher. I did this with a view to sharing one each week with fellow members of "the company of prophets." Here goes:

Not unto me, not unto me, be the shadow of praise or of merit ascribed, but let all glory be given to thy most holy name.
— Robert Murray McCheyne

May God give you a single-minded focus today to bring him glory through your sermon and that living sermon that is your life.
