The Christmas You Won't Find Under The Tree

But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
— Luke 2:19 ESV

It is Christmas eve. Slow down or you will miss what really matters. Today, do what Mary did: Stop. Take note of what God is doing. Ponder his work in your heart.

He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree.
— Roy L. Smith

New Testament commentator Robert Stein notes that when Luke says, "Mary treasured up all these things" he probably intended his readers to think of everything that had happened from Luke 1:5 -- 2:19. If you haven't examined that passage lately, a lot was happening:

  • Angelic appearances
  • Divine birth announcements
  • Prophetic words meant for the world
  • Mary's Song of Praise: The Magnificat
  • Jesus' birth
  • Frightened shepherds
  • The race to the manger

You can click here to read the passage. Full disclosure: There are 94 verses to read. Knowing that, everything inside of you will scream, "I DON'T HAVE TIME."

Make time.

Stop ... take note ... ponder. What do you discover about God, his power, his love for people, and his heart for you?

Look closely. God has a gift for you in his Word that you won't find under the tree. Then join us at Spanish River Church this Christmas Eve at 2, 4, 6, or 8. God has a big gift waiting for you there too!
