How To Turn Around A Bad Attitude

There is a world of difference between theory and practice. This post is practice.

Yesterday, I was a few key strokes from completing today's devotional when my computer crashed. Yes, it passed out! I don't have the skill to conduct a technical autopsy. It doesn't really matter. I know where to look for back-ups and they were nowhere to be found.

This was not like hitting a speed bump. This was like traveling uphill with a flat tire and no spare! I wanted to pull over and junk the car. Then I remembered what I was writing about. It was decision time. Did I really believe what I was talking about or was I just a poser?

Last week, I shared some powerful words from George Müller in a post entitled, "How To Start Your Day Right" (Click here if you want to read it). This is the heart of Muller's thoughts: "I saw more clearly than ever that the first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was, to have my soul happy in the Lord." Good man Müller was making a case for a daily attitude adjustment. I have found that what is begun in the early hours must be maintained throughout the day. So whether you are reading this early or late, here are three attitude adjusters from God. Soak them up. Apply them to your current circumstance -- and chase away those dark, unhappy clouds!

Attitude Adjuster #1 - Nothing can separate you from God's love.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? . . . Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? … For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:31-39 ESV

Rhino Glue may claim to be the world's strongest liquid adhesive, but it's Scotch tape compared to the grip God has on his own. N-O-T-H-I-N-G can separate you from God's love. Not a past failure, a present problem, or a future catastrophe. Jesus secures this.

Attitude Adjuster #2 - God invites you to cast all your anxiety on him.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-9

What's in your worry sack? Before you even read the next paragraph, you must stop right now and unload your cares on God. While you are at it, give him the bag you've been carrying it all in. It is His job to handle your worries--not yours!

Attitude Adjuster #3 - With God's help you can leap over every obstacle.

For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God— his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. 2 Samuel 22:30-31; Psalm 18:29 ESV

This is amazing! The One who spoke the world into existence, hung the stars in space, and raised Jesus from the dead will help you catapult over that tough challenge you are facing.

Try these. They are not true because they work. They work because they are true.
