What We Never Outgrow

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting silver.
— Proverbs 25:11 ESV

We outgrow many things . . . shoes, styles, and nightly bedtime stories. We never outgrow our need for encouragement.

My fresh reminder came courtesy of Coach Hue Jackson and the hapless but not hopeless Cleveland Browns. Last Sunday, the Browns were two steps removed from NFL ignominy. After starting 0-14, it appeared the Browns would join the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2008 Detroit Lions as a trifecta of "total losers."

Cleveland's season brightened, if just a little, as San Diego kicker Josh Lambo's 45-yard field goal attempt missed right as time expired. Then came the locker room celebration and the words and the emotions poured out.

This Proverbial place setting is a powerful reminder that no one outgrows their need for encouragement.

This day if your locker room encounter. What will you do with it?

Therefore encourage one another.
— 1 Thessalonians 1:11
