It's What You Don't See That Counts

Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.
— Matthew 6:1 ESV

Sometimes, probably most times, others don't see our service . . . and that's just the way God likes it.

I walked out of the office last night. Daylight had scurried off to another part of the world. The clock was showing just two hours before midnight. It had been a long day and I had a happy heart.

My joy stemmed, in part, from some of the leaders of our church. I had just spent the last four hours with them. As they were making their way to their cars I thought how hard they worked on behalf of SRC and how little others would know about it.

These guys are not alone. Some folks spend hours every week laboring behind the scenes -- some years! In fact, the vast majority of the service that occurs inside and outside the walls of SRC is that which goes unnoticed: teaching, loving, giving, caring for the needs of others, wiping snotty noses, sending encouraging notes, praying, lending a hand, providing an encouraging pick-me-up . . . the list could go on and on and on.

Just one thought about their service and yours:

And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
— Matthew 6:4
